If you’ve been following the blog, then you know I started a 3-day juice and smoothie detox cleanse. If you haven’t been following the blog, well, now you know. 🙂
In case you’re interested in knowing about juicing for detox and cleansing your body, then I recommend you read the post I made on the topic.
Maybe you’ve decided to do a juice/smoothie detox. By now you’ve given your body somewhat of a heads up about what is about to happen. You may have even uttered the words “We need to talk.” or “This isn’t working out.” It’s time to break up with your old habits and start over with the right intentions. So I wanted to share an update about how my 3-day cleanse went.
My Detox Experience
To me Day 1 is always the easiest. You’re all jacked up about doing a cleanse and you can’t wait to get started. You’ve purchased and prepped all your fruits and veggies. You’re ready to go. I had no problem drinking my juices, smoothies, and teas. Even my 3 year old would ask if I had my juice. It was even funnier when she asked me, “Mommy, what are you drinking for dinner?” Hahahaha. Kids are awesome.
Since I was cleansing my body for a few days, I decided it wasn’t a great idea to go for a run but I didn’t want to be a lazy couch potato all day. Every morning I would do a 30-minute yoga session with my 3 year old. Yoga with a 3 year old is fun and has great opportunities for making memories, but it isn’t so relaxing. 😉 When both of my girls napped I completed a more calming yoga session. Then I would meditate for about 10 minutes. After the girls would wake up we would go on a decent walk anywhere from 1.5-2 miles.
You don’t need to over exert yourself, but you definitely do not need to be lazy.
Days 2 and 3 can be the toughest. For me Day 2 wasn’t so bad either. I did start to crave certain foods. All I wanted was to sink my teeth into a simple veggie patty sandwich with hot sauce and hummus. Delish. But by the end of Day 2 I had lost 5 lbs. Whoop Whoop!
Starting day 3, I was feeling okay. In my mind I was telling myself how I couldn’t wait to be done so I could eat a meal. You’ll start to crave all sorts of delicious foods, maybe foods you haven’t really tried or liked. I’ve been thinking about my first meal all day. Finally decided on a black bean burger with sweet potato fries. Yum!
Just as I could feel myself becoming weak, my husband would say “I’m so proud of you for sticking to your cleanse. You’re being a great role model for our girls.” Suddenly I didn’t feel so weak anymore. He knows one of my love languages is words of affirmation and in that moment he couldn’t have timed it any better.
As I am wrapping up Day 3 of my cleanse not only is my mind more clear, but I have lost about 10 pounds! Most of that is water weight, I’m sure. Before my cleanse I was having trouble losing weight. My weight was maintaining the same for the most part. I’d lose a pound, then gain 2 pounds, then lose 3 pounds… I needed this cleanse to not only rid my body of all the toxins, but to also get the weight coming off again. Now that I have, it’s a much better place to start than where I was.
Even though my cleanse is over, I’ve enjoyed the benefits of it so much that I am going to be doing a cleanse every 3 months. Just like you have to change the oil in your car every few months, I’ll be cleaning my body of toxins and other crap. I’ve never done a cleanse on a schedule. I’d love to have some friends do it with me!
